Discovering a Hidden
Gem in NYC: The Magical Morgan Library & Museum
When people think of New York City, they often picture Times
Square, Central Park or the Statue of Liberty. But beyond the busy streets and
tourist hotspots lies a treasure trove of lesser-known places that reveal the
city’s deeper charm.
One of those hidden gems is the Morgan Library &
Museum, a peaceful, inspiring space that feels like stepping into a
storybook. For our students aged 12 to 17 visiting from Spain, this is a chance
to explore something unexpected, cultural and unforgettable.
What is the Morgan
Library?
Originally built as the private library of financier J.P.
Morgan in the early 1900s, this spectacular building has since become a public
museum and research library.
Located in Midtown Manhattan, just a short walk from Grand
Central Terminal, the Morgan Library is home to rare manuscripts, historical
documents, and one of the most beautiful reading rooms in New York.
Why is it so special?
- The
interior is stunning
The main library room has wooden walls, carved details, painted ceilings and three-story-high bookshelves. It feels like a scene from a Harry Potter film! - Incredible
original manuscripts
You’ll find letters from Charles Dickens, music scores by Beethoven and Mozart, and even a handwritten poem by Bob Dylan. - Three
Gutenberg Bibles
The museum owns three original copies of the Gutenberg Bible, one of the first books ever printed in Europe. - Calm
and quiet
Unlike many NYC attractions, the Morgan is peaceful and not crowded. It’s a perfect place to slow down and take it all in. - A
mix of old and new
A modern expansion designed by architect Renzo Piano connects the historic spaces with new galleries, a café, and even a quiet garden.
Why we love it for students
At New York English Courses, we want our students to see
more than just the typical tourist spots. We believe in creating full cultural
experiences, and the Morgan Library offers just that.
Here’s why we recommend it for teenagers:
- Visually
inspiring – it’s one of the most “Instagrammable” museums in NYC
- Connects
literature and history – students see original works by authors and
musicians they’ve studied
- Perfect
length – the visit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, ideal for student
groups
- Multidisciplinary
– art, music, literature, history and architecture in one place
- Memorable
– because it’s not on the typical tourist route, it becomes a special
memory

Final thoughts
New York City is full of surprises, and the Morgan Library
is one of its quietest, most enchanting ones.
It’s a place where students can not only practice their
English, but also experience the beauty of history, literature and art, all
under one roof.
At New York English Courses, we believe that these kinds of
visits help our students grow not just as learners, but as global citizens. And
that’s what truly makes a summer in New York unforgettable.
